WHAT KIND OF SORORITY IS KAPPA SIGMA PSI?
Kappa Sigma Psi is a Canadian National Sorority. We have 2 collegiate chapters, 1 alumnae chapter and 1 collegiate colony. We dedicate our time to socializing, networking and community service.
IS KAPPA SIGMA PSI RECOGNIZED BY DURHAM COLLEGE, ONTARIO TECH, OR TRENT UNIVERSITY DURHAM?
Kappa Sigma Psi is not recognized by either post-secondary institution. But our chapter accepts female undergraduate or graduate students from all three schools listed above.
I'VE NEVER HEARD OF KAPPA SIGMA PSIÂ AND MY FRIENDS DON'T HAVE A CHAPTER ON THEIR CAMPUS, ARE YOU Â EVEN A REAL SORORITY?
Yes we are a real sorority. We are as real as ΚΚΓ, ΧΩ, and any other Panhellenic sororities. You are sure to get a great sorority experience from Kappa Sigma Psi even though we are a newer organization. Kappa Sigma Psi has already begun expanding and with the addition of new colonies/chapters you will have the opportunity to network and socialize with sisters from different schools/campuses.
WHY SHOULD I JOIN KAPPA SIGMA PSI?
Kappa Sigma Psi is a female-only organization but we don't discriminate against anyone's religion, economic status, culture, sexual orientation, etc. If you enjoy socializing, helping out your community and having a group of friends who will always have your back, then this is the sorority for you!
WHAT IS RECRUITMENT/RUSH?
Recruitment is a set of events hosted by the chapter at the beginning of every Fall (September) and Winter (January) semester. You must attend at least 2 events and an interview in order to be eligible for an invitation to join the sorority.
WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?
Being a member of Kappa Sigma Psi requires a minimum of 3 hours a week for meetings and sisterhood events. But the more time you put into it, the better your experience will be.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ?
It is 100% free to attend our recruitment events. But, there are fees for new, active and alumnae members. A breakdown of chapter finances will be discussed at our information night during recruitment period or you can simply ask one of our members for more information.
WHAT IS HAZING?
Hazing is the act of harassment, abuse or humiliation used as a way of initiating a person into a group. Here at Kappa Sigma Psi we do NOT haze any of our members. There is a zero tolerance for such behaviour.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A POTENTIAL NEW SISTER?
There is no specific checklist. We encourage everyone to be themselves during recruitment. All we ask is that you be of good moral character.
HOW MANY GIRLS DO YOU ACCEPT EACH RECRUITMENT PERIOD?
There is no specific number. We don't want to add pressure by having potential members compete for limited number of spots. We want everyone to feel comfortable while going through recruitment.
WHAT IS NEW MEMBER PERIOD LIKE?
New member period is fun and exciting. This stage of membership will last approximately 5-6 weeks after bids are accepted. This is the time when our new members learn about Kappa Sigma Psi, Greek life, our traditions, expectations, etc. All new members will be given a mentor/big sister during this stage. Again, there will be 100% NO hazing.
